NVMe SSD hosting puts your website on the fastest type of storage used in servers today. Every page view reads files and database rows from disk. When the disk answers faster, pages are built faster, and visitors wait less. This guide explains what NVMe is, how it compares with older disks and when the difference really matters.

From hard disks to SSD to NVMe

Old servers used hard disk drives (HDD) with spinning platters and a moving arm. Each read had to wait for the right spot to pass under the arm. Solid-state drives (SSD) replaced the moving parts with memory chips, which made reads much faster.

The first SSDs used the SATA connection, which was designed for hard disks. NVMe is a newer way to connect SSDs directly to the fast PCIe lanes of the server. It can handle many requests at the same time, with less delay for each one. That is why NVMe SSD hosting is faster than hosting on SATA SSDs.

Why NVMe matters for websites

A website does many small reads, not a few big ones. A WordPress page may load dozens of files and run many database queries. Speed then depends on how fast the disk answers each small request, and that is where NVMe shines.

  • Databases answer queries faster, which helps shops, forums and busy WordPress sites.
  • Backups and restores finish sooner.
  • Busy moments, when many visitors arrive at once, cause less slowdown.

When NVMe SSD hosting makes a real difference

The gain is clearest for sites that do a lot of work on each visit: online stores, membership sites, apps and sites with large databases. For a small site with a few static pages, a normal SSD is already fast, and other factors matter more.

Storage is only one part of speed

A fast disk cannot fix a heavy site. Large images, too many plugins and missing caching slow pages down on any server. CPU, memory and the distance to your visitors count too. Our guide Website Speed: 10 Practical Ways to Load Faster covers the other steps, and Website Uptime Explained covers reliability.

How to check the storage type of a plan

Read the plan details, not only the headline. Hosts usually write "SSD" or "NVMe SSD" next to the storage size. If a plan only says "fast storage", ask support which disks are used.

NVMe SSD hosting at HostiGuard

Our VPS plans use NVMe SSD storage, together with AMD EPYC processors and full root access. Some of our cloud hosting plans also list NVMe storage, and our shared hosting plans use SSD storage. Each plan page shows the exact storage type and size.

Our servers are in the Netherlands and Canada, and support answers by live chat, e-mail and tickets in English, Arabic and French. A new VPS can be refunded within 48 hours if it has not been set up or used, as described in our Refund Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is NVMe the same as SSD?

NVMe drives are SSDs too. The difference is the connection: NVMe uses the fast PCIe bus, while older SSDs use SATA, which was built for hard disks.

Will NVMe make my small blog much faster?

A little, but caching and light images will help more. NVMe shows its value on busy sites and large databases.

Does NVMe storage help SEO?

Indirectly. Search engines prefer fast pages, and faster storage helps your server answer quickly. Good content and a well-built site still matter most.
