Sharing files and folders from your cloud storage
Every cloud storage plan can share. Open Dashboard → Cloud Storage → Open files (or drive.hostiguard.com) and press Share next to a file or folder. Each item has one link; who can open it depends on the settings below.
1. Choose the general access
- Restricted — only the people you add can open it. They confirm their e-mail address with a code first; they do not need a HostiGuard account.
- Anyone with the link — anyone who has the link can view it. You can switch Allow download on or off, add a password, and choose how long the link works: 24 hours, 1 week or until you turn it off.
2. Add people
- Under Invite people, enter an e-mail address.
- Choose what they can do: View & download, Upload, Edit & rename, Delete. Upload, edit and delete apply to folders; a shared file is always view & download.
- Choose for how long: 24 hours, 1 week or until you remove them. Their time starts when they first open the link.
- Press Invite. They receive an e-mail with the link.
To open the item, the person enters their e-mail address and the 6-digit code we send to it (valid for 10 minutes).
3. Approve access requests
When someone without access opens a restricted link, they can press Request access and add a message. You receive an e-mail, and the request appears under Access requests: press Approve or Decline. Nothing changes until you choose.
4. See and stop sharing
- All sharing & requests opens the Sharing page: access requests, people with access, shared items, recent activity and the items others shared with you.
- Remove takes one person's access away at once.
- Stop sharing closes the item to everyone. The link stays the same, but nobody can open it.
- New link creates a new address; the old one stops working.
Good to know
- Each plan has a limit on how many people you can share with. The People sharing counter shows how many are used.
- If someone you share with deletes an item, it goes to your Trash, so you can restore it.
- To work with people every day, a team space is better than sharing: Team spaces.
