Server licenses let you run commercial software on your own VPS or dedicated server. Popular examples are control panels and fast web servers. Without a valid licence, the software stops working or shows warnings. Here is what you need to know before you buy.
Common server licenses
- cPanel & WHM: the control panel used by most hosting companies.
- LiteSpeed: a fast web server that replaces Apache.
- CloudLinux: isolation that keeps accounts from affecting each other.
- Imunify360: security and malware protection for servers.
- Softaculous: one-click installers for hundreds of apps.
How server licenses are billed
Most licences are monthly and tied to one server IP address. Some prices depend on the number of accounts you host. Check the tier before you grow, because adding accounts can move you to a higher price. Annual billing may be cheaper for long-term projects.
Installing a licence
- Order the licence for the IP address of your server.
- Install the software using the vendor command.
- The software checks the licence automatically.
- Keep the server IP stable, or ask us to move the licence.
Do you need them?
If you host only your own site, a free panel may be enough. If you resell hosting or manage many client sites, cPanel saves hours every week. LiteSpeed is worth it for busy WordPress sites, thanks to built-in caching.
Buy from one place
Ordering licences together with your server keeps billing simple. You get one invoice and one support team for problems. See current prices on our licenses page. If you do not have a server yet, compare our VPS plans first.
Remember to renew on time. An expired licence can lock your panel at the worst moment.
Moving to a new server
Licences are linked to an IP address. When you migrate, ask us to move the licence to the new IP. Plan this step before switching DNS, so the panel keeps working. Most moves are done within one business day.
