Backup & Restore Policy

What we back up, how to ask for a restore — and why you should always keep your own copy.

event Last Updated: October 13, 2026

This policy explains how backups work for each HOSTI GUARD LLC service and how to request a restore. It forms part of our Terms of Service (hostiguard.com/terms).

Your data is your responsibility. Our backups exist so that we can recover from hardware failure or a disaster. They are provided as a courtesy, without guarantee, and are not a replacement for your own independent backups.

1. At a glance

  • Shared, WordPress and Cloud hosting — regular courtesy backups taken by us for disaster recovery. You can also create and download your own backup at any time from cPanel.
  • VPS and dedicated servers — unmanaged: not backed up by us unless the Managed backup add-on is active on the server.
  • Managed backup add-on — automatic daily backups kept for 14 days, with restores on request from your server panel.
  • Business e-mail — covered by the backups of the server it runs on; keep copies of important messages.
  • Cloud storage — files are stored once; deleted files cannot be recovered, so keep a second copy.
  • Domains, SSL certificates, proxies and licences — no customer data to back up; their settings are kept in your account.

2. Shared, WordPress and Cloud hosting

We take periodic backups of hosting accounts — files, databases and mailboxes — and keep them on separate storage. How often they are taken and how long they are kept may change and is not guaranteed.

Accounts that go beyond fair use, or that store backups, archives or large media libraries, may be excluded from our backups.

Use cPanel → Backup to download a full or partial backup whenever you like. We recommend doing it every week and always before a major change to your website.

3. VPS and dedicated servers

VPS and dedicated servers are unmanaged infrastructure: you have full root access and we do not copy or access your data. Without the Managed backup add-on, no backup of the server exists.

With the add-on, the server is backed up automatically every day and each backup is kept for 14 days. The Create a backup now button in your server panel asks our team for an extra backup.

Reinstalling the operating system erases every file on the server. No backup is taken automatically before a reinstall.

4. Requesting a restore

  • Hosting: open a support ticket from your client area with the domain, what you need (the whole account, files, a database or a mailbox) and the date you want to go back to.
  • Servers with Managed backup: press Restore next to the backup in the Backup tab of your server panel, or open a ticket.
  • A restore replaces the current data with the copy from the chosen date. Download what you need to keep before asking for it.
  • We aim to complete standard restores within one business day. If a restore needs more work than a standard restore, we tell you the cost — if any — before we start.

5. Limits

We do not guarantee that a backup exists for a particular date or that it is complete. HOSTI GUARD LLC is not liable for any loss of data — see the limitation of liability in our Terms of Service (hostiguard.com/terms).

6. Suspended, expired and terminated services

While a service is suspended for non-payment its data is kept. When a service is terminated — for example when it remains unpaid after its expiry date for the period set by HostiGuard (see the Billing & Renewal Policy) or at your request — its data and every backup of it are permanently deleted and cannot be restored. Export your data before you cancel a service.
